A fatal accident on Interstate 71 has Kentucky investigators working to determine exactly what happened. The multiple vehicle car accident happened in Oldham County on I-71 when police believe a car traveling southbound crossed into oncoming traffic. This first car then struck an SUV traveling in the northbound lanes. The first car then collided with a tractor-trailer, also traveling northbound.
Following this series of collisions, another car attempted to avoid the crash and drove into the median striking a drainage gate. The driver of the first car, a 27-year-old man, was killed in the accident. The driver of the SUV was injured and was taken to a local hospital by ambulance. Reports immediately following the crash did not update her condition.
The driver of the tractor-trailer reportedly did not sustain injuries in the crash. The driver of the third car that landed in the median sustained minor injuries and was transported to a local hospital. Police reported that all of the drivers were properly wearing their seat belts at the time of the crash. There were no passengers in any of the vehicles. The investigation into the cause of this tragic accident continues.
Tragic accidents like this one affect more than just the individuals immediately involved. Often, the families of the victims also suffer from financial or emotional hardship. As the investigation into this Kentucky accident continues, the surviving victims of this car accident may be interested in learning exactly what factors led to this crash. If the investigation reveals that the driver of the first car was negligent in any way, then the injured victims may be able to seek damages against his estate and any separate owner of the vehicle he was driving. Successfully litigated personal injury claims may provide reimbursement for the victims to aid them as they work to move beyond medical expenditures, lost wages, or other expenses stemming from the accident.
