Surely, one of the last things anyone wants to hear is that a family member has died in a car accident. Sadly, a fatal accident in Kentucky has killed three people and injured one. A preliminary investigation was done at the scene of the accident.
Authorities that were called out to the scene spoke to witnesses to determine how this accident occurred. Reportedly, a car that was traveling southbound on Highway 15 ended up in the northbound direction. The vehicle ended up smashing into an oncoming pickup truck. In addition to the three that died, a fourth person sustained injuries serious enough to be flown to a local hospital.
In addition to the witness statements, authorities also inspected the position of the vehicles. They concluded that the incident happened on the shoulder in the northbound lane. The car crash resulted in the road being closed off for a few hours. Two of the deceased victims rode in the pickup, while the third fatality was riding in the car. The injured victim appears to have been riding in the car as he shares the same last name as the deceased victim from that vehicle.
The investigation regarding this fatal accident is ongoing. Depending on the outcome of this investigation, the families of the victims in the pickup may be able to file wrongful death claims against the driver of the car driver and any separate owner of the vehicle he was operating. If the driver of the car died, then the families still have legal recourse to file a lawsuit against his estate. The civil court system in Kentucky typically resolves these types of lawsuits. When it is determined that a wrongful death was caused by the negligence of another party, monetary damages are typically awarded.
